LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
The second album, with a new singer and the band's shape settled. It was recorded between July and September 1987 at Thunderload Studios in Stockholm, produced by the band, and Axis Records released it on 9 November that year. The new singer was Messiah Marcolin, who — the monk's habit included — largely fixed the image of Candlemass from then on. His voice and phrasing are not the session singer's of the debut, and on "At the Gallows End", "Dark Are the Veils of Death" and "Bewitched" the vocal stands as the lead over the slow riffing. From the instrumental "Gothic Stone" opening the record, through the singles "Samarithan" and "At the Gallows End", to the video made for "Bewitched", it is treated as a classic of doom metal. The running order here is the 1987 original's as printed.
