LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
This is the first album by the Canadian band formed in Toronto in 2006. Their label called the music "flute-tinged witch rock", and the lyrics are full of black magic imagery and references to classic horror films; the record has also been described as hard rock, psychedelic folk, progressive rock and doom metal.
The band is fronted by Alia O'Brien on vocals, flute and organ, whose flute solos recall Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. She created the band with the guitarist Sean Kennedy, who is responsible for most of the writing. Torontoist has called them "Toronto's most original band".
In a 2011 interview on Finland's NukeTV, O'Brien called their style "heavy rock" and put their distinct sound down to each member having different influences. She named progressive rock of the late 1960s and early 1970s as crucial to her own, and called Jethro Tull her very first and deepest love in music. The band spent the latter part of 2009 touring Europe with Electric Wizard. The running order here is the original's as printed.
