Liner Notes

Sabotage is a fulfilling work on which Black Sabbath, while keeping thick, heavy riffs as its unshakable core, boldly took in sudden development, keyboards and layered voices, greatly widening its sonic range. A record of the early golden age Ozzy Osbourne belonged, made during a period holding various hardships, such as legal problems. Tony Iommi’s guitar opens up the songs sharply yet uneasily, and the rhythm section of Geezer Butler and Bill Ward firmly and powerfully supports the fierce changes. From the directly striking power of the opener “Hole in the Sky” and the speed and change of “Symptom of the Universe,” called a prototype of thrash metal, to the epic “Megalomania,” every song is engaging, while cuts like “Am I Going Insane” and the tense “The Writ” convey the work’s fullness. Content on which the band’s aggression strongly appears. A record that powerfully showed both outstanding aggression and complex, precise construction at once. It is truly dense content that turned the deep tension of a difficult period straight into a sure playing intensity. One of the last glows of early Black Sabbath and an enduring, powerful, engaging classic — an essential record for fans.
