The Satanist

This is the tenth album by the band from Gdansk. It was announced on 31 May 2013 and released on 3 February 2014 through Nuclear Blast, a day later in Poland through Mystic Production and in North America through Metal Blade Records. A download single and a 12-inch EP of "Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel" had gone out on 4 December 2013. It was recorded between February and June 2013 at Hertz Studio in Bialystok and RG Studio in Gdansk, produced by the band with Daniel Bergstrand and the Wieslawscy brothers. Colin Richardson began as producer and stepped down after four weeks over creative differences. Matt Hyde mixed it at Hydeaway Studios in Los Angeles and Ted Jensen mastered it at Sterling Sound in New York. Where the earlier records pushed on speed and density, this one slows down and makes room for horns and for ritual pauses. "In the Absence ov Light" carries a spoken passage from Witold Gombrowicz's play The Marriage. The video for "Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel", produced and directed by Grupa 13 and Dariusz Szermanowicz, premiered on 3 December 2013, and through January a four-part prologue film was released a week at a time ahead of the album.
