Tales from the Thousand Lakes (Live at Tavastia)

Tales from the Thousand Lakes (Live at Tavastia) is a live record of a Helsinki concert at which Amorphis played their 1994 second album Tales from the Thousand Lakes complete and in its own running order. Reigning Phoenix Music issued it internationally on 12 July 2024; the Japanese edition, a two-disc CD and Blu-ray set on Ward Records (JAN 4571614700731), followed on 6 September 2024. The album section runs from ‘Thousand Lakes’ through ‘Into Hiding’, ‘The Castaway’, ‘First Doom’, ‘Black Winter Day’, ‘Drowned Maid’, ‘In the Beginning’, ‘Forgotten Sunrise’ and ‘To Father’s Cabin’ to ‘Magic and Mayhem’ — the 1994 sequence untouched, one record played from the top. The year of the concert is the thirtieth since that album appeared. Two songs sit outside the reconstruction. The eleventh, ‘Vulgar Necrolatry’, belongs to Abhorrence, the band several members played in before this one, and Amorphis had already recorded it on the 1993 EP Privilege of Evil. The set closes with ‘My Kantele’, past the eight-minute mark. Twelve tracks in all, about fifty-four minutes.
