Beyond the Sea

『Beyond the Sea』は、DARK MOORがきらびやかなキーボード、流麗なギター、物語を思わせるメロディを組み合わせた作品だ。速い曲でも音の重なりは整然としており、幻想的な空気を崩さない。前作で加入したアルフレッド・ロメロの歌声が、バンドの新体制に定着した一枚である。 “Before the Duel”“Miracles”“Vivaldi's Winter”といった楽曲では、壮大なコーラスと繊細な間奏が交互に現れ、アルバムに絵画的な広がりを与えている。とりわけヴィヴァルディの旋律を引用した“Vivaldi's Winter”は、バンドのクラシカルな志向をよく示している。“Houdini's Great Escapade”“Beyond the Sea”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作からバンドはよりクラシック音楽への傾倒を深めその優雅な作風を確立しており、H・P・ラヴクラフトの世界観に着想を得た楽曲もあり文学的な奥行きも感じさせる。“Through the Gates of the Silver Key”“Alea Jacta”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。スペインのDARK MOORらしいロマンティックな世界観を、さらに深めた一枚である。

Beyond the Sea is a work on which DARK MOOR combined glittering keyboards, flowing guitar and melody evoking a story. Even in fast songs the layering of sound is orderly, not breaking the fantastical air. It is a record on which Alfred Romero’s voice, joining on the previous album, settled into the band’s new lineup. On “Before the Duel,” “Miracles” and “Vivaldi's Winter,” grand choruses and delicate interludes appear alternately, giving the album a painterly breadth. In particular, “Vivaldi's Winter,” quoting Vivaldi’s melody, well shows the band’s classical inclination. Songs like “Houdini's Great Escapade” and “Beyond the Sea” breathe the band’s full playing too. It is a record that further deepened the romantic worldview characteristic of Spain’s DARK MOOR.
