USエクストリーム・メタルの手練れが集ったDEATHオマージュ・プロジェクト、LEFT TO DIEがRelapse Recordsから放つ初のフル・アルバム。DEATHに在籍したリック・ロズ（G）とテリー・バトラー（B）に、EXHUMEDのマット・ハーヴェイ、GRUESOMEのガス・リオス（Dr）が合流した顔ぶれである。1983年から1987年にかけてのDEATH／MANTASのデモやリハーサル音源を丹念に洗い直し、当時さまざまな編成の間を巡っていた楽曲を選び直したもので、いわば『SCREAM BLOODY GORE』の“もう一つの世界線”のトラックリストと言える内容だ。「Legion Of Doom」「Archangel」「Witch of Hell」「Death By Metal」など、DEATHの獰猛な出発点にあった楽曲群を現在の演奏力で鳴らし直しており、初期デス・メタルの手触りを求めるリスナーに応える一枚となっている。

The debut full-length from Left to Die, a project of seasoned US extreme metal players paying homage to Death, released by Relapse Records. Death alumni Rick Rozz (guitar) and Terry Butler (bass) are joined by Matt Harvey of Exhumed and Gruesome drummer Gus Rios. The material was assembled by combing through Death and Mantas demos and rehearsal tapes from 1983 to 1987, gathering songs that circulated among the various line-ups of that period — in effect an alternate-universe version of the Scream Bloody Gore tracklist. "Legion Of Doom", "Archangel", "Witch of Hell" and "Death By Metal" among them, these are the songs that sat at Death's most savage beginning, played again with present-day command, and the record answers anyone after the texture of early death metal.
