Epic is the second album by Vltimas, five years after the first. The band is Rune Eriksen, formerly of Mayhem, David Vincent, formerly of Morbid Angel, and Flo Mounier of Cryptopsy, and their 2019 debut Something Wicked Marches In cleared expectations that had grown very large indeed. Eriksen describes this one as old school meeting the present, with everything the three of them love about extreme metal living together on a single record. Riffs threaded with dissonance, a voice that is both malevolent and seductive, drumming that barely sounds human: this is the place only the people who built death metal and black metal can reach. Ward Records issued the Japanese edition on 15 March 2024. Nine tracks, about thirty-seven minutes.
