The Devil's Asylum is, by the Japanese label's count, the fourteenth album from Vicious Rumors, the Bay Area power metal band founded by guitarist Geoff Thorpe. Marquee Incorporated released the Japanese edition on 27 August 2025 as MICP-11955, with notes, lyrics and translations over eleven tracks and about 45 minutes; Steamhammer's edition arrived two days later. The Japanese label argues that the style the band settled on with their second album, 1988's Digital Dictator — force and speed in equal measure — has not shifted since, and recalls their 2023 return to Japan after sixteen years, played to a Japan-only set drawn entirely from the first four albums. The videos credit a line-up of Thorpe and Denver Cooper on guitars, Larry Howe on drums, Robin Utbult on bass and Chalice on vocals, and name Thorpe as the writer of both "Bloodbath" and "Dogs Of War". Four songs have clips on Steamhammer's channel, all of them made by Ingo Spörl for hard-media.com.
