Reflecting the Shadows is the first album by Vansidian, the Finnish melodic death metal band led by Matti Meri-Huhti — better known as Loitsumestari Taikakalo, the guitarist of Moonlight Sorcery. Where Moonlight Sorcery leans towards black metal, this band works in the idiom of early melodic death metal with riffs drawn from retro video games and the melancholy melody well to the front. The album first appeared in 2023 as a self-released digital record; the Japanese CD is its first physical release anywhere. Marquee Inc. issued it on 24 July 2024 as MICP-11895, adding a cover of Annihilator's "The Fun Palace" recorded specially for the Japanese edition, which brings it to ten tracks and shows the side of Matti that loves Japanese bands and Japanese games.
