This expanded 5150 turns Van Halen's 1986 album, their first with Sammy Hagar and their first to top the US chart (it reached No. 4 in Japan), into a five-disc set. Rhino released the LP/3CD/Blu-ray edition on 27 March 2026, days after the album turned 40, and Warner Music Japan followed on 8 April with a limited Japanese version (WPZR-31100/4) that adds a booklet of notes, lyrics and translations. Donn Landee, the band's longtime engineer, oversaw the remaster from the original master tapes heard on the first CD and the LP. The second CD collects single edits, extended versions and live tracks, and the third brings previously unreleased live recordings from the band's show at New Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum on 27 August 1986, the night the concert video Live Without a Net was filmed; the Blu-ray presents that film in high definition for the first time and, according to Rhino, the promo clips for "Dreams" and "Why Can't This Be Love" as well. The label has put the extended versions of both songs on YouTube as audio.
