Metal Blade released Battle Ballads on 12 April 2024; the Japanese CD followed ten months later, on 21 February 2025, and it is the first Týr album to be pressed here at all. The band come from the Faroe Islands, an autonomous territory of Denmark, formed in 1998 and debuted with How Far to Asgaard in 2002 before Ragnarok took them to Napalm Records in 2006 and a move to Metal Blade in 2013; in 2022 they recorded A Night at the Nordic House with a Faroese orchestra and choir. The ballads of the title are the medieval secular kind rather than the soft kind, and because Heri Joensen sings the melodies outright rather than roaring them, the result sits closer to traditional heavy metal than to anything extreme. Ten tracks, forty-two minutes, several of them titled in Faroese. Ward Records added a commentary booklet and translated lyrics; three songs have official videos.
