LINER NOTES
The Complete EMI Recordings 1989-1995 gathers on seven CDs everything Thunder, one of the defining British hard rock bands of the 1990s, recorded for EMI: three studio albums plus single B-sides, demos, acoustic versions and live recordings. The band came together in 1989 around the core of Terraplane — the guitarist and songwriter Luke Morley, the singer Danny Bowes and the drummer Gary "Harry" James — joined by Ben Matthews on guitar and keyboards and Mark 'Snake' Luckhurst on bass. Andy Taylor of Duran Duran produced the debut, Backstreet Symphony (1990, CD1), which yielded five chart singles and took them to the opening slot at Monsters of Rock in 1990, heard here complete on CD3. Laughing On Judgement Day (1992, CD4) reached number two in Britain, and Behind Closed Doors (1995, CD6), made after Mikael Höglund replaced Luckhurst, completed a run of three hit albums before the band left EMI in 1996. CD2 also carries their Town and Country Club show in London of 7 March 1990. Ninety-two tracks in all. HNE Recordings and Cherry Red released the box on 27 September 2024 as QHNE7BOX201, and it reached Japan on 5 October 2024 as an import prepared for Japanese distribution, CDSOL-71808.
