Frisson Noir

Tarja Turunen released Frisson Noir through earMUSIC on 12 June 2026, and Ward Records issued the Japanese edition the same day as GQCS-91749, with a Japanese booklet and translated lyrics. Prog describe it as her return to metal after seven years, the last such record being In the Raw in 2019. earMUSIC say the idea at the centre of the album is the physical reaction music can produce in a listener. Neal Avron, who has worked with Fall Out Boy and Linkin Park, mixed it, and Jeremy Levy's orchestrations are played by the Budapest Art Orchestra and Choir under Gyorgy Gulyas Nagy. Marko Hietala, formerly of Nightwish, sings on "Leap of Faith"; Apocalyptica play on "Tango"; Dani Filth of Cradle of Filth appears on "I Don't Care"; Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith plays on "Against the Odds", which Prog report was originally in contention for 2016's The Shadow Self. Shamisen player Sayo Komada guests on "The Trace Outlives", drawn from johatsu, the Japanese term for people who deliberately vanish from their lives, and flamenco guitarist Julián Bedmar plays on "Anemoia". The three singles arrived on 18 March, 22 April and 27 May. Twelve tracks, including an intro and an outro.
