The Weight of the Mask is the fourth album by Svalbard, the British post-metal band. They formed in 2011 and debuted with One Day All This Will End in 2015, writing music that took in post-rock, crust and shoegaze. When I Die, Will I Get Better? of 2020 leaned furthest into post-rock, was widely praised, and is what brought them a deal with Nuclear Blast in Germany. This record takes as its subject the fight with the demons inside oneself, and Serena Cherry's roar carries all of it. It is music full of conflict that is never hard to listen to -- the melody is always there. Ward Records released the Japanese edition on 3 November 2023 as GQCS-91397, after the overseas edition of 6 October. Nine tracks, about forty-four minutes.
