Faust Act I: Prelude to Darkness is the fourth album by Stranger Vision, an Italian progressive metal quartet, and the first of their records to be released in Japan. The writing sits near Dream Theater, Kamelot and Seventh Wonder — lyrical melodies over shifting time signatures — and is put together in detail by the band's leader Riccardo Toni, who plays both guitar and keyboards. It is billed as the first act of a cycle drawn from Goethe's Faust, and James LaBrie of Dream Theater guests on Nothing Really Matters. King Records issued the Japanese edition, KICP-4079, on 18 October 2024 to coincide with the band's first Japanese shows at Shibuya Stream Hall on 18 and 19 October; Wasteland Records released the album internationally on 8 November. Thirteen tracks, closing with an orchestral version of Carpe Diem made for the Japanese pressing.
