Hell Awaits, the album Kerry King calls "the record where SLAYER became SLAYER", turns 40 with this reissue from Metal Blade Records, which first released it in April 1985 as the band's second studio album. The three-CD earbook, out on 15 May 2026, pairs the seven original songs, remastered and restored in February 2025 by Patrick W. Engel of Temple Of Disharmony from the 1985 production tapes, with two discs of Live from Bochum 1985, eighteen live recordings that had never been issued in any format. A 60-page book and a poster complete the set. Where most songs on the 1983 debut Show No Mercy stayed under four minutes, three of these seven run past six, which King traces back to how taken he and Jeff Hanneman were with Mercyful Fate's Melissa while writing. This listing is the import edition.
