Vermillion is the first solo album by Simone Simons, for many years the voice of the Dutch symphonic metal band Epica, and she made it with Arjen Lucassen of Ayreon, her countryman, working on it throughout. She had listened to Ayreon since she was sixteen and asked him to join her; the result moves between symphonic and cinematic writing and passages that are progressive or simply heavy. Epica's Rob van der Loo on bass and Mark Jansen appear alongside the drummer Koen Herfst, and the guests include Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy, Perttu Kivilaakso of Apocalyptica and Joost van den Broek. Ten tracks, about 46 minutes. Nuclear Blast released it on 23 August 2024 and Ward Records issued the Japanese edition, GQCS-91480, the same day.
