LINER NOTES
Madness Reigns From The Gutter (1990) is a Savatage concert recorded at the Palace in Los Angeles on 29 June 1990, released for the first time by earMUSIC in Europe on 26 June 2026. King Records' Japanese edition follows on 28 October 2026 as a two-CD set, KICP-4126/7, with the same nineteen tracks. The show took place on the North American part of the Rulin' Gutter tour, which followed the 1989 album Gutter Ballet and took in over 100 dates in North America and Europe in roughly six months. The line-up was Jon Oliva (vocals, keyboards), his late brother Criss Oliva (guitar), Chris Caffery (guitar, keyboards), Johnny Lee Middleton (bass) and Steve "Doc" Wacholz (drums). The original master tapes were restored and the whole set mixed and mastered again; announcing the album in January 2026, Jon Oliva put the night among the best concerts Savatage ever played. The set runs from "City Beneath The Surface" to "Devastation" and includes songs that share their titles with earlier records, such as "Sirens", "The Dungeons Are Calling" and "Hall Of The Mountain King". In Europe a CD digipak and a heavyweight triple LP came out alongside the digital edition, and the US physical release followed on 18 September 2026. On 25 June, the eve of the European release, earMUSIC published a video for "Gutter Ballet (Live 1990)" cut together from 1990 tour footage, memorabilia and parts of the song's original promo clip.
