Pro Xristou is the fourteenth album by Rotting Christ, and their first in five years since The Heretics. Sakis and Themis Tolis started the band in Greece in 1987, among the earliest underground extreme acts anywhere in southern Europe; the early demos were grindcore, and Venom and Celtic Frost pulled them toward black metal from there. Thirteen albums and more than 1,300 shows followed the 1993 debut, absorbing doom, gothic and industrial along the way without ever softening, and the lyrics have gone after the contradictions of religion throughout. Sakis Tolis produced this one himself and built it around the figure of a pagan king, gothic and symphonic in scale. Season of Mist released it on 24 May 2024 and DIW on METAL issued the Japanese edition, DYMC6094, on 22 May. Twelve tracks, about fifty-five minutes, including two bonus tracks that the international deluxe edition also carries. The band played Tokyo on 21 May 2024.
