Down The Mountainside is the record that introduced the Swedish four-piece Quantum to Japan. Anton Ericsson leads on bass and vocals, with Marcus Lundberg on drums and vocals and Samuel Walfridsson and Kalle Segerborg on guitars, and the band's starting points run from Genesis and King Crimson through to the mathcore and hardcore of The Dillinger Escape Plan. What holds it together is the contrast: the metre keeps shifting underneath while the singing stays plain and melodic on top. Richard Henshall and Tom MacLean of the British progressive metal band Haken both guest. It appeared at home on 19 April 2024, and King Records issued the Japanese edition, KICP-94067, on 8 May with an alternate mix of "On The Verge" added — nine tracks, about fifty-one minutes.
