How It Ends is the tenth Primordial album and their first in five years. The Irish band have been working under that name since about 1992; they began close to the Norwegian black metal of the day, signed to Cacophonous Records and debuted with Imrama in 1995, and leaned further into folk metal with each record after it. The style they arrived at — black metal fused with Celtic music — reached one of its peaks on To the Nameless Dead in 2007, their first for Metal Blade. Nothing here is smaller in scope: there is a grandeur that recalls Bathory's Viking-era records, and Celtic melody carrying a great deal of sorrow. The line-up is A.A. Nemtheanga on vocals, Ciáran MacUiliam on guitar, Pól MacAmlaigh on bass and Simon O'Laoghaire on drums. Metal Blade released it on 29 September 2023, Ward Records' Japanese edition on 13 October as GQCS-91375. Ten tracks.
