Flickering Resonance

Flickering Resonance is Pelican's first full-length album in six years, out on Run For Cover on 16 May 2025 with Daymare Recordings' Japanese CD (DYMC-421) following on 21 May. The band formed in Chicago in 2000 and have stayed at the front of post-metal since; Daymare credit the three albums of their Hydra Head years with setting one of the templates for the style, and note that the move to Southern Lord pushed them further toward metal. They toured Japan for a fourth time in 2019, ten years after the third. Original guitarist Laurent Schroeder-Lebec returned in 2022, restoring the founding line-up, and two EPs followed before the band signed to Run For Cover, a label better known for emo and alternative rock, for this record. The clarity of the earliest albums is back, with lyrical riffs that work as melody even inside the heaviest passages. Japan alone gets "Adrift" and "Tending The Embers" as bonus tracks — the first original recordings made after Schroeder-Lebec's return, and issued on CD nowhere else in the world.
