Five years on from their last record, Paradise Lost released Ascension through Nuclear Blast on 19 September 2025, and Ward Records issued the Japanese CD the same day as GQCS-91664, ten songs in about 51 minutes. Their Japanese label describes it as pushing further along the heavier, death-voiced path of the recent albums and leaning harder into metal. Nick Holmes sings, with Greg Mackintosh on lead and rhythm guitar, Aaron Aedy on rhythm guitar, Steve Edmondson on bass and Guido Montanarini on drums; Holmes also fronts Bloodbath. Nuclear Blast's channel has videos for "Silence Like The Grave", "Serpent On The Cross", "Tyrants Serenade" and "Salvation" plus a lyric video for "Lay A Wreath Upon The World". Lars Kristoffer Hormander made the "Serpent On The Cross" clip, and Ash Pears directed, produced and edited "Salvation" for AshTV. The band's career runs back to Lost Paradise in 1990.
