Obscura, the German technical death metal band Steffen Kummerer founded in 2002, released A Sonication through Nuclear Blast on 7 February 2025, and Ward Records issued the Japanese CD (GQCS-91703, with Japanese liner notes and translated lyrics) on 10 December 2025.

Obscura, the German technical death metal band Steffen Kummerer founded in 2002, released A Sonication through Nuclear Blast on 7 February 2025, and Ward Records issued the Japanese CD (GQCS-91703, with Japanese liner notes and translated lyrics) on 10 December 2025. Ward presents it as the band's seventh album, its second for Nuclear Blast and the second chapter of a trilogy that began with 2021's A Valediction. Kummerer sings and plays guitar alongside guitarist Kevin Olasz, bassist Robin Zielhorst and drummer James Stewart, and the eight songs run about 39 minutes. Music videos for "Silver Linings", "Evenfall" and "In Solitude" appeared in the run-up to the release and on the day itself, and the band kept adding clips in 2026 with "Stardust" and "The Sun Eater".
