Half Black Heart is the fifth album by New Years Day, the Anaheim, California rock band fronted by Ash Costello, and their first in about five years. The gothic staging and the theatrics are still what the band is known for; what makes this one particular, Costello has said in interviews, is that the original line-up came back together to make it. "Hurts Like Hell" was the advance single. Lizzy Hale of Halestorm, a friend of more than a decade, put her name to it in praise. Century Media released it on 1 March 2024 and Sony Music Labels issued the Japanese edition, SICP-6578, on 22 May with liner notes and translated lyrics, adding "Come For Me" and "Disgust Me" — fourteen tracks, about forty-seven minutes.
