Envy the Dead is the fifth Misanthropia album and the point at which the Dutch four-piece stopped being a symphonic melodic black metal band. Twenty years into their career they went straight at black death metal instead, and Mike Wead — of King Diamond and Mercyful Fate — recorded, engineered and mixed the result. The writing is unusually narrative for the genre: "Prosperity By Cocaïne" sets its moral rot in a Victorian frame, and the rest of the nine tracks, forty-four minutes in total, keep that storytelling edge. The album came out abroad on 6 September 2024; WormHoleDeath Japan issued the Japanese edition (BITX-1360), a direct import with Japanese packaging, on 28 February 2025. Three songs have music videos and the label released a teaser for the album.
