The Other Side of Mars is the first solo album by Mick Mars, the guitarist who co-founded Mötley Crüe more than forty years ago. When he stepped away from touring after the huge stadium run of summer 2022 it looked like the end of an era. As he puts it, there is a Mötley side and a Mars side to his playing, and both are here: hard rock built on the riffs he is known for ("Loyal to the Lie", "Ain't Going Back", "Right Side of Wrong") sits beside fierce modern metal ("Broken on the Inside"), a gothic soundscape ("Undone"), a slow power ballad full of anguish ("Killing Breed") and the bluesy instrumental that closes the record ("LA Noir"). At seventy-one he is plainly walking into territory he has not been in before, and the instruments follow him there — slide guitar, violin, viola, keyboards. Ultra-Vybe issued the Japanese-packaged edition on 28 February 2024. Ten tracks, about thirty-nine minutes.
