Live in Manchester 1980 documents a single night at the Manchester Apollo on 30 September 1980, weeks after The Michael Schenker Group had released its first album in August of that year, and the set is accordingly early: eight of the thirteen songs come from that debut, in close to album order and missing only "Bijou Pleasurette", while the remaining five — "Natural Thing", "Rock Bottom", "Shoot Shoot", "Doctor Doctor" and "Lights Out" — are songs Michael Schenker had made with UFO.

Live in Manchester 1980 documents a single night at the Manchester Apollo on 30 September 1980, weeks after The Michael Schenker Group had released its first album in August of that year, and the set is accordingly early: eight of the thirteen songs come from that debut, in close to album order and missing only "Bijou Pleasurette", while the remaining five — "Natural Thing", "Rock Bottom", "Shoot Shoot", "Doctor Doctor" and "Lights Out" — are songs Michael Schenker had made with UFO. Chrysalis Records had issued the recording digitally on 7 May 2010, but this is its first release on CD anywhere: Marquee Incorporated pressed it on 23 April 2025 as an SHM-CD in a cardboard sleeve (MICP-30200) with a commentary booklet.
