Mayhem's first album in seven years comes from the Norwegian black metal band that Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth and Jørn "Necrobutcher" Stubberud founded in 1984; Necrobutcher is still on bass, with Attila Csihar on vocals, and Garm and Ulver are credited on the opening "Ephemeral Eternity".

Mayhem's first album in seven years comes from the Norwegian black metal band that Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth and Jørn "Necrobutcher" Stubberud founded in 1984; Necrobutcher is still on bass, with Attila Csihar on vocals, and Garm and Ulver are credited on the opening "Ephemeral Eternity". The credits posted with "Weep for Nothing", "Despair" and "Life Is a Corpse You Drag" name Tore Stjerna and Mayhem as producers, Stjerna as engineer and mixer, and Thomas Johansson as mastering engineer; the three visualizers appeared between November 2025 and January 2026. Century Media Records released the eight-track Liturgy of Death on 6 February 2026, and Ward Records' Japanese CD (GQCS-91736) followed on 13 March to mark the band's April visit to Japan, adding "Life Is a Corpse You Drag" as a bonus track, with translated lyrics and Japanese liner notes.
