Splashed is an album by Mad Painter, a five-piece from Boston formed in 2015 whose melodic rock is drawn from the traditional rock of the 1970s, Mott the Hoople, Faces and Uriah Heep above all. Alex Gitlin sings, plays keyboards, writes most of the material and set the concept for this record; Alan Hendry drums and arranged the backing; Kenne Highland, who has played bass in a long list of Boston bands including the Gizmos, Hopelessly Obscure, Johnny & The Jumper Cables and Africa Corps, is on bass, and Alan Naha of The Thigh Scrapers on guitar, with Sharon Crumrine and Julie Gee joining on backing vocals for the first time here. The seventeen songs gather material written since 1997 and take their cues from The Zombies, ABBA, Elton John, Deep Purple, Mountain, Procol Harum and the Small Faces, with a cover of Uriah Heep's "Stealin'" among them. It came out at home on 20 October 2023 and reached Japan on 31 July 2024 as a direct import with Japanese packaging, BITX-1325.
