Live In Frankfurt 1980

A two-disc Japanese edition of Led Zeppelin at the Festhalle in Frankfurt, West Germany on 30 June 1980, taken from a soundboard recording; Straight Music issue it on 23 September 2026. Tour Over Europe 1980 was the band's first run of concerts since the American tour they abandoned in 1977 after the death of Robert Plant's son, and it turned out to be their last. Another American tour had been the intention, but Plant was unwilling, and a short European trip was the compromise. It began a month later than planned, in Dortmund on 17 June, and ran to fourteen shows, ten of them in West Germany. Smaller halls and plainer production were chosen deliberately, and the long improvisational pieces were dropped from the set, which makes the whole thing read as preparation for the American dates that were to follow. Two nights earlier in Nuremberg, John Bonham had collapsed during the third song and the concert was stopped; here the band were back on their feet. "Train Kept A-Rollin'" opened every night of the tour, but the encores moved around, and this was the only date to finish on "Money". Bonham died during rehearsals for the American tour that autumn and the band came to an end; this was the fifth concert from the last. Sixteen songs.
