Permission to Fly is a solo record by Jordan Rudess, the keyboard player of Dream Theater, and it reached Japan almost five months after the rest of the world: InsideOutMusic put it out on 6 September 2024, Marquee Avalon issued the Japanese CD (MICP-11937) on 5 February 2025. The Japanese pressing runs to eleven tracks and sixty-four minutes, adding "Incarnation" and "Nocturne in F Minor" as bonus tracks on top of the nine that make up the album abroad, and it carries a commentary booklet and translated lyrics. The writing gives the keyboards the lead throughout and takes its time over it — "Into the Lair" alone runs past nine minutes. Four songs have videos, one of them a music video for "The Final Threshold".
