LINER NOTES
John Carpenter — the director and composer behind Halloween and Escape from New York — releases Cathedral through Sacred Bones Records on 7 August 2026. The album accompanies a graphic novel of the same name, built from a dream Carpenter had and published on 4 August, and its fourteen tracks follow a story that spreads out from the graveyard of a ruined church. His son and longtime musical lieutenant Cody Carpenter plays keyboards, while guitar comes from Daniel Davies — a collaborator of many years who has played in Karma to Burn and CKY, and the son of the Kinks' Dave Davies. It is the first Carpenter record billed outright as heavy metal, though by his own account the metal arrived as a result rather than a plan. He has long named Metallica a favourite and has lately been taken with Babymetal, and that ear runs through the record. The official visualizer for "Lord of the Underground" is out now.
