LINER NOTES
Netherworlds is the tenth studio album by INSOMNIUM, the Finnish melodic death metal band formed in Joensuu in 1997, and it came out on Century Media Records on 16 October 2026. It is the first full-length since guitarist Tomy Laisto became a full member in January 2026, alongside Niilo Sevänen (vocals, bass), Ville Friman and Markus Vanhala (guitars) and Markus Hirvonen (drums).
Where Winter's Gate (2016) and Anno 1696 (2023) told stories set in the past, the lyrics here deal with growing old, loss and the people who are gone. The album opens with the band's first cover, Henry Purcell's "The Cold Song"; "The Hour Grows Late" features Tomi Joutsen, Tomi Koivusaari and Santeri Kallio of Amorphis, and "Arch of the Sky" draws on Sámi mythology. Miiro Varjus produced it, Jens Bogren mixed it and Tony Lindgren mastered it, both of Fascination Street Studios, and Travis Smith painted the sleeve, his first for the band. "Shadowlife", "Gleam in the Black" and "Arch of the Sky" were the singles, and a video for "The Hour Grows Late" accompanied the album. Besides the ten-track CD there is a limited deluxe 2CD artbook with three more songs from the same sessions, and double-LP editions. Marquee's Japanese edition (MICP-12058) has a release date of 25 November 2026.
