The fourth album by Hellripper, the blackened speed metal project James McBain started in Scotland in 2014 and on which he plays everything, and his first record for Century Media. Since the 2015 debut EP The Manifestation of Evil he has released steadily — Coagulating Darkness (2017), The Affair of the Poisons (2020) and Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags (2023) — and this one arrived on 27 March 2026. A coronach is a Scottish lament for the dead, and McBain describes the record as a personal exploration of Scottish culture: its music, literature, history and folklore. He cites Venom and Mercyful Fate, Watain and Opeth, the Manic Street Preachers, film scores and Scottish traditional music. It was recorded DIY between April 2024 and October 2025, mixed by McBain himself and mastered by Damian Herring at Subterranean Watchtower Studios, with artwork by Adam Burke of Nightjar Illustration. Guests contribute additional guitar, vocals, violin, percussion and bagpipes. The video for "Hunderprest" is built from footage of Damnation Festival 2025 in England, and the song draws on the vampire legend of Melrose Abbey. Eight songs, forty-four minutes.
