Avenge the Fallen is the thirteenth album by HammerFall and their first in two years. The Swedish band began in 1993 as a side project of Oscar Dronjak and Jesper Strömblad of In Flames; it became a band in earnest when the singer Joacim Cans joined in 1996, and their 1997 debut, Glory to the Brave, arrived in the middle of the death and black metal years as a signal that traditional heavy metal had not gone away. Renegade reached number one at home in 2000. This album marks their return to Nuclear Blast, the label they started on, and Fredrik Nordström mixed it as he has so often before. The line-up is Cans, Dronjak, Pontus Norgren on guitar, Fredrik Larsson on bass and David Wallin on drums — ten tracks, about 47 minutes. It came out worldwide on 9 August 2024, with Ward Records issuing the Japanese edition, GQCS-91479, the same day.
