Girlschool formed in London in 1978, growing out of the earlier band Painted Lady, which had been active since 1975. Motörhead's Lemmy Kilmister discovered them and gave them a support slot on the 1979 "Overkill" tour. This is an archival live album from Cleopatra Records, taken from the band's set at the Reading Rock Festival in Reading, Berkshire on 28 August 1981; the festival ran 28-30 August and Girlschool closed the opening Friday. The show fell during the tour for "Hit and Run", released 10 April 1981 on Bronze Records, produced by Vic Maile and a UK No. 5 album. The line-up at the time was Kim McAuliffe (guitar, vocals), Kelly Johnson (guitar, vocals), Enid Williams (bass, vocals; she left the band in 1982) and Denise Dufort (drums). Nine tracks, including "Race With The Devil", a cover of the Gun song. The international edition arrives 25 September 2026 as a CD (CLO7434CD) and as a limited white-with-red-splatter LP; a Japanese-market edition with domestic distribution spec is issued the same day in a jewel case with an obi, catalogue CLO7434CDJ. No bonus tracks are listed.
