Hardtones is the first album in some years under the name of Euge Valovirta, the Finnish guitarist who writes and plays lead for the Swedish melodic metal band CYHRA. He came up at home in Godsplague and Drive, made his international name as the guitarist in Suburban Tribe, and has played on records by Children of Bodom and Ensiferum; between 2010 and 2017 he was Niklas Kvarforth's writing partner in the Swedish band Shining. This record is built around a different singer on every track, drawn from across the Nordic metal scene — Jake E of CYHRA, Samy Elbanna of Lost Society, Joonas Kosonen and Ben Varon of Oceanhoarse, Olli Herman of Reckless Love and Pekka Heino of Brother Firetribe among them. The songs themselves are straight heavy metal with their roots in the eighties. Valovirta mixed and mastered it himself, with Jacob Hansen also working on the master. It appeared at home on 31 May 2024, and King Records issued the Japanese edition, KICP-94068, on 29 May with "Freedom" added — twelve tracks, about forty-five minutes.
