Winter Storm is the ninth album by Ensiferum, the Finnish folk metal band, and their first in four years since Thalassic (2020), which their label counts as their eighth. That record topped the Finnish album chart, reached number three in Germany and entered the top ten in Switzerland, Canada and the United States. Two world tours later they made this one, built on a fantasy story written by bassist and vocalist Sami Hinkka, which is where the album takes its name. The advance track Winter Storm Vigilantes was written for that story and opens the record. The folk-inflected melodies and the choruses made for crowds to sing are where they have always been, but the whole album is laid out as one large tale of battle. Madeleine Liljestam guests on Scars in My Heart. Metal Blade released it on 18 October 2024 and Marquee Inc. issued the Japanese edition, MICP-11890, on 23 October. Ten tracks.
