Reader of the Runes - Luna closes the concept trilogy Elvenking have been building since well after their 2001 album debut. Reaper Entertainment released it on 11 April 2025 and King Records issued the Japanese edition on 25 June 2025 as a limited pressing, KICP-94102, with liner notes, translated lyrics and three bonus tracks. The Italian pagan and viking metal band keep the style that marks them out — sturdy power metal shot through with melancholy melody and a folk inflection — while the writing here is more refined and the story carries more weight. Mathias Lillmåns of Finntroll guests on "Stormcarrier", and the album proper ends with "Reader of the Runes - Book II", past the eleven-minute mark. Japan adds one live recording each from the band's Paganfest 2025 shows in Milan, Kraków and Lausanne.
