Inspiratio Profanus collects Dimmu Borgir's covers. The Norwegians are among the most commercially successful bands black metal has produced, and they got there on the music alone, having emerged from a scene at home that was better known abroad for arson and murder; the Crown Prince has reportedly turned up at their shows unannounced. What is gathered here runs from the genre's own headwaters -- Venom's "Black Metal", Bathory's "Satan My Master", Celtic Frost's "Nocturnal Fear" -- through heavy metal and hard rock standards in Twisted Sister's "Burn in Hell", Deep Purple's "Perfect Strangers" and Accept's "Metal Heart", to "Dead Men Don't Rape" by the San Francisco industrial cult act G.G.F.H. Each is taken into Dimmu Borgir's own colours without losing what the original was. Ward Records released it on 22 December 2023 as GQCS-91413, two weeks after the overseas edition. Eight tracks, about thirty-two minutes.
