Far from Glory

Far from Glory is a four-track EP by Descent, a four-piece from Dallas, Texas. The band grew out of a friendship between "Metal" Mike Ames, who plays guitar and sings, and the drummer Brian Knox, who as teenagers played skate punk in the wake of Nirvana, Green Day and The Offspring. Several changes of personnel later they settled into the current line-up and turned in earnest to death-thrash under the name Descent, taken from the video game about a spacecraft. The result is brutal in the plainest sense — powerful growled vocals over sharp-edged riffing — and since the band reformed in 2018 the line-up has taken in newer players including the bassist Jamie. It was recorded in Dallas across 2021 and 2022 and mixed and mastered by Nino Helfrich at Skulltone Studios. The EP appeared digitally on 22 December 2023, was reissued by Wormholedeath Records, and reached Japan on 31 July 2024 as a direct import with Japanese packaging, BITX-1323.
