The Obsession is Charlotte Wessels' solo album, and the first of her solo records to get a Japanese edition. The Dutch singer, formerly of Delain, had already released two compilations — Tales From Six Feet Under in 2021 and a second volume in 2022 — drawn from songs written for her own subscriber community and performed and programmed entirely by herself; neither came out in Japan. Here Simone Simons of Epica sings on "Dopamine" and Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy on "Ode To The West Wind". The writing moves freely across genre lines and the melodies stay dark and catchy across twelve tracks, about fifty minutes. Napalm Records released it on 20 September 2024 and Marquee issued the Japanese edition, MICP-11915, on 25 September.
