Black Star is a four-track EP marking Candlemass's fortieth year. The Swedish band's 1986 debut Epicus Doomicus Metallicus and the following year's Nightfall, made with Messiah Marcolin singing, gave epic doom metal its name; original singer Johan Längquist returned in 2018 and has been on the records since, through The Door to Doom in 2019 and Sweet Evil Sun in 2022. Marquee present this one as a continuation of the return to first principles that album began. Two of the four tracks are covers — Black Sabbath's "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" and Pentagram's "Forever My Queen". Napalm Records released it on 9 May 2025; Marquee Incorporated's Japanese CD (MICP-11949), with a Japanese essay and translated lyrics, had come two days earlier. The title track and the Sabbath cover both have official videos.
