The Ghost of a Future Dead is the last At The Gates album with Tomas Lindberg, who died on 16 September 2025 after the Gothenburg melodic death metal band had finished it. Their eighth album, and the fourth of the reunion era that began with 2014's At War with Reality, it brings back original guitarist Anders Björler, whose melodic guitar solos are prominently featured, alongside Jonas Björler on bass, Martin Larsson on guitar and Adrian Erlandsson on drums. Century Media Records released it on 24 April 2026, and Trooper Entertainment's Japanese CD (QATE-10152) came out the same day with lyrics, translations and liner notes. Patric Ullaeus made the video for "The Fever Mask"; Costin Chioreanu's animated clips, drawn in white ink, began with "The Dissonant Void" and "In Dark Distortion", and on 8 September 2026 the last ten arrived, so that every one of the twelve songs now has one.
