The Thunderfist Chronicles is the eighth album by Alestorm, who describe themselves as true Scottish pirate metal. Napalm Records released it on 20 June 2025; Marquee Inc. had the Japanese edition out two days earlier, on 18 June, as MICP-11953. The band came together in Perth, Scotland, in 2004 and built a category of their own out of folk metal and pirates, drink, adventure and war, with lyrics whose humour is the point. Trumpet, trombone, accordion, synthesiser, fiddle, tin whistle, vibraslap, brass, keytar and massed singalongs give the eight songs the feel of a sea shanty; the seventeen-minute closer "Mega-Supreme Treasure of the Eternal Thunderfist" got an official video of its own. They first played Japan in 2014, headlined Evoken Fest in 2019, and returned for three shows in Tokyo and Osaka in May 2025.
