Erneuerung

Akantophis are a German four-piece playing atmospheric black metal, formed in 1998, and Erneuerung is their fifth album. The line-up settled in 2000 and the debut that followed a year later made their name in the underground; after a run of concerts and a second record, Live im Klima, which carried four new songs, the band stopped in 2004. During the pause its members turned up in Hidden In The Fog, Throat Cut and Psykra. They restarted in April 2017 with some of the personnel changed, put out a seven-inch called Wiederkehr in 2018, and in 2020 reshaped their sound substantially on the mini-album Exitus XX — the record the present style is built on. Erneuerung runs seven tracks and about forty-two minutes. The lyrics are mostly in German and written to each song's own subject, and the album sets a heavy, settled atmosphere against passages of real aggression. WormHoleDeath reissued it on 26 June 2026, and WormHoleDeath Japan issue the Japanese edition on 30 October 2026 as a direct import with Japanese packaging, catalogue number BITX1493.
