The Wolf and the King is the eighth album by 1349, the Norwegian black metal band who took their name from the year the plague reached Norway and who formed in 1997, and their first in about five years since The Infernal Pathway. Ravn, the man at the centre of the band, sang and drummed at first and moved to vocals alone once Frost of Satyricon joined. They signed to Candlelight and debuted with Liberation in 2003, toured the United States with Celtic Frost — the band they name as their largest influence — and Ravn guested on Celtic Frost's Monotheist in 2006; they have played Japan twice, in 2012 and 2017. Revelations of the Black Flame in 2009 took in ambient and industrial textures, but this record runs on Frost's blast beats on almost every track, with sharp riffing and malevolent vocals throughout. Season of Mist released it on 4 October 2024 and Daymare Recordings issued the Japanese edition, DYMC-6097, on 23 October. Eight tracks.
